Remembering What We Know

As I was struggling to think of the “perfect” thing to write about, I was reminded of this: what we know requires no explanation. Who we are, simply vibrates, and is.

How to apply this concept? Notice what you do, every day, without question or thought. Maybe you brush your teeth twice, make a nice meal and go for a walk. Or perhaps you frequently journal, exercise and dance. These are examples of who you are. What makes you, you. If you’re not really liking what you do every day without thinking…that’s another conversation!

What are you explaining or over explaining to yourself? Are you explaining things to others that really don’t need explaining? I’m not talking about explaining something to someone who is unfamiliar with an idea, I’m talking about literally explaining who we are to others, perhaps out of fear or insecurity or with defensiveness. For instance, why you do or do not want to pursue _____ path, or why you do or do not like _____ music anymore, or why you want _____ kind of duvet cover or no longer eat _____ food or now you do eat _______ food. This might feel like a lot of air, lots of talk, lots of ungrounded words, almost as if they’re coming out of you without direction or permission.

You do not need to explain these things. You do not need to even share these things if you do not want to! This is about harnessing and centering our own, true, embodied power. When something is embodied, it simply is. There probably is not a lot of thinking around something that feels truly and uniquely YOU. When I am most out of my power is when I am thinking the most. When I am most in my power, there is very little thought, mostly intuitive movement and feeling.

I was in meditation recently and was presented with the image of a marigold. As I was browsing various websites for more information on the stunning orange flower, I suddenly remembered that a blog I began back in 2018 featured marigolds as the banner. Why did I begin that blog? Because I wanted a home for the e-book I had just released. The ebook is titled I take excellent care of myself: a homemade compilation of ways to practice self care, reminders of self worth, and ideas of where to begin. Take a look if you haven’t already!

The year was 2018 and I was just beginning to share my story and to share my truth. The passion, love, unbridled authenticity I felt at that time is the medicine I am calling in now. At that time, I was stripped bare of what I “should” do and “how” to do it– I just. did it. I truly did not overthink it too much, because what was coming out of me was simply the truth.

For now, I leave you with the question of: what is it that I am explaining or over-explaining to myself or others? Where am I thinking too much? Where am I out-sourcing my thoughts and opinions?  Where am I giving away my power?

And then, where do I simply know? Yes you DO know some things! Notice what you do every day, how you move through the day, how you approach your tasks and what is literally in and around your reality right now. That will give you some clues about what you know, what is not requiring too much conscious thought or processing–what simply and beautifully, is. If you find yourself rationalizing, reasoning, explaining and thinking a whole lot about “shoulds” and “whys” to yourself and others, notice that too.

With tenderness and gratitude,

Courtney
